Pedro Matos (Portugal) is a multi-disciplinary singer and guitar player based in Berlin. Fascinated by the possibilities of the human voice, Pedro has been exploring a wide range of repertoires, from early music to jazz and folk music, using a lot of different techniques, including beatbox.

His first serious stage experience came at the age of 14, singing the title role of Hans Werner Henze’s children’s opera “Pollicino”.

He holds two degrees, one in classical singing at Lisbon College of Music (with Sílvia Mateus) and one in classical guitar at University of Évora (with Dejan Ivanovitch).

Based in Berlin since 2017, he studies singing privately with Sami Kustaloglu, Tim Ribchester (correpetition) and Michael Smallwood. He’s also studying a master’s degree in historical singing at Hochschule für Musik “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, with Yosemeh Adjei. He considers himself to be pretty much an improvisation and ornamentation freek. He participated in masterclasses with singers such as Yvonne Minton, Carlos Monteiro, Paulo Ferreira, Geert Berghs, Pierre Mak, Margarida Natividade, Christian Hilz, Kai Wessel and Gundula Anders.

Pedro works mainly as a versatile lyrical tenor specialized in the baroque repertoire. Performances as soloist in 2022 include the opera L’Ormindo (Osmano) by F.Cavalli with Ensemble Mattiacis in Marocco, “Les Indes Galantes (Damon and Tacmas) at Benslow Music (England), extracts from “Il Re Pastore” (Alexander) with Ars Augusta e.V (Görlitz). As a concert performer, Pedro colaborates regularly with Ensemble Lachrymae (Leipzig) as well as with many church musicians in Berlin.

Pedro is also a much sought-after ensemble singer, collaborating with groups such as Coro da Casa da Música (Porto), Vocalconsort Berlin, Servientes Ensemble, Cantus Thuringia, Capella Angelica and Lautten Compagney. He is currently a member of collective Utopera, a berlin-based group focused on operatic creation and performance that questions standard repertoires, casts and role models.

He is very interested in other fields of study, such as acting (laboratory of theatrical creation by Claudio Hochmann, Lisbon), jazz (Jazzschule Berlin) and ballroom dance (Magicdance Berlin).

Very engaged in the portuguese community in Berlin, Pedro is the vice-president of Cultural Association 2314 e.V. In June of 2022, together with other 4 young Portuguese, he led the organization of “Nem tudo é saudade: Portuguese Culture Fest Berlin 2022”, the biggest event so far for promotion of portuguese culture in the city.
